# Catalog Note: Peace with Honour

The Argosy, August 1897 features Chapter XV of "Peace with Honour" by Sydney C. Grier, a colonial adventure serial set in the Middle East. The protagonist Dick prepares the Mission compound for siege after fearing his friend Stratford has been sent to his death at the Palace by the King and Fath-ud-Din. Dick fortifies the building, stockpiles provisions, and dispatches loyal soldier Ismail Baksh with a message to Fort Rahmat-Ullah. Georgia Keeling, a female physician, grieves her role in Stratford's apparent sacrifice, wrestling with guilt over rejecting Dick's counsel in favor of visiting a patient. When a procession approaches with music and celebration, the men brace for violence—only to discover Stratford alive and unharmed, returning in ceremonial robes of honor. The chapter concludes with Stratford's return to the women, who greet him with relief and complex emotion.
