Cadáveres incompletos

· 1961

This Spanish-language pulp magazine issue, Cadáveres Incompletos (Incomplete Corpses) by W. Sampas, is a science-fiction spy thriller serialized by Ediciones Toray in 1961.

The narrative follows Red Curtis, a promising recruit at the Spacial International Police academy who fails the final test—a harrowing endurance trial called "the ledge test" (la prueba de la cornisa). Despite excelling academically, Curtis cannot overcome his fear while traversing a narrow building ledge four stories high without safety equipment. After backing down, he's dismissed by the academy doctor with sympathy but finality. Unable to face his physician father in Colorado who had warned against the dangerous career, Curtis flees to New York City in shame, drifting through bars as his money dwindles. The narrative explores his internal collapse following this public failure and his inability to accept the doctor's counsel that not all men are suited for such work.
