This issue contains seven science fiction stories. The lead novelette, "Slaves of the Tree" by Eric Rodman, involves a colony that has interbred with an alien race. Daniel L. Galouye's "Hostile Life-Form" describes Captain Parker's trouble-shooting detail encountering vicious, otter-like creatures called otterillas on a colonial settlement site where a hundred colonists have been massacred. The crew discovers that smaller armadillo-like creatures called dasypus pseudarmadilli (nicknamed "Daisy") are natural predators of the otterillas and effectively defend the camp. Arthur J. Burks's "Little America on the Moon" explores strategic control of Earth through lunar dominance. Other stories include R.H. Hardwick's "Special Aptitude," Calvin M. Knox's "Frontier Planet," Harlan Ellison's "No Planet Is Safe," and Theodore R. Cogswell's "One to a Customer," about an alien merchant. The issue includes feature columns and illustrations by Emsh, Orban, and Bowman.
