# Catalog Note
Aim Ahead (December 1947) is a sports-oriented pulp magazine featuring three novelets and several short stories across different athletic disciplines. The featured novelette "Keep Hollering, Busher!" by John Wilson concerns Skip Merrill, a 150-pound shortstop joining the Central League Indians for the season opener. Despite flashy defensive play—executing double plays and making precision throws—Merrill struggles at the plate, striking out twice. Pitcher Hunch Sanders mocks his batting performance and predicts his swift return to steelmill work. Manager Don Frost counsels patience, explaining Sanders' difficult history in major league play. The narrative establishes Merrill's family context: his accomplished older brother Lance is a major league pitcher, while their father, former ballplayer Tom Merrill, suffers from a failing heart. Tom has sent Skip to pursue baseball, encouraging him never to stop vocal encouragement ("hollering") during games, regardless of discouragement.
