This issue features five mystery stories edited by Leslie Charteris. "The Very Groovy Corpse" by Craig Rice (reportedly her last unpublished John J. Malone story) follows the small-time Chicago lawyer as he defends Joe the Angel's young cousin Alphonsus, accused of murdering his girlfriend Anne-Maria Strella. Found dead in an alley with a brutal head wound and bearing a note saying "This chick was pretty groovy but I had to get her out of the way," Anne-Maria was discovered to be pregnant, implicating Alphonsus. "The Lost Special" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle presents a non-Sherlock Holmes detective tale, while "Death in the King's Room" by Sax Rohmer features a protagonist other than Fu Manchu. Additional stories include "Error at Daybreak" by Carter Dickson, "The Reluctant Victim" by Lawrence Treat, and "The Brain Workers" by Charteris featuring the Saint.
