The Saint Mystery Magazine, October 1962

This October 1962 issue of The Saint Mystery Magazine, edited by Leslie Charteris, contains six mystery stories. "The Rhine Maiden" by Charteris follows the Saint (Simon Templar) traveling by train through Germany with valuable stolen property, where he meets a naive German-American elderly man and his beautiful young daughter Greta. The old man speaks of his employer, the wealthy businessman Bruce Voyson, whose investments have made the family prosperous. Also featured are stories by established mystery writers: Margery Allingham's "The Meaning of the Act," Stewart Sterling's "Dying Room Only," George Fielding Eliot's "The Galloping Bandits," and Lawrence Treat's "Murder Masquerade." The issue includes a substantive editorial by Charteris defending the magazine's policy against what he characterizes as excessive censorship pressure regarding ethnic and national characterizations in crime fiction.
