This issue of Wild West Weekly (no. 244, June 1907) features the serial "Young Wild West at Greaser Gulch; or, Arietta and the Masked Mexicans," credited to "An Old Scout." The narrative follows young adventurer Wild West, a celebrated gunshot and horseman, as he leads an expedition toward the mining camp of Greaser Gulch in Arizona's Sierra del Ojo Mountains. His party comprises his sweetheart Arietta Murdock, partners Cheyenne Charlie and Jim Dart, Charlie's wife Anna, Jim's betrothed Eloise Gardner, and two Chinese employees, Hop and Wing Wah. Having hunted partridges during their journey, the group reaches the mining settlement at midday. The camp contains approximately twenty shanties with scattered tents, inhabited mostly by Mexican miners. The fragment breaks off as the party prepares to investigate the camp further, suggesting impending adventure and conflict.
