Learning of Young Wild West's presence at the hotel, they request his party join their mountain hunting expedition. Wild West accepts. The narrative establishes Hadley as an Eastern bookkeeper at a local smelting works, popular despite his inexperience with frontier life, while detailing the party's comfortable financial position from prospecting ventures. Chapter II begins discussing a dice game, though the text becomes incomplete.
