What you’re looking at

This page contains **primarily advertising** for the Hol-Hi golf ball by Wilson-Western Sporting Goods, mixed with a **Life Magazine title contest announcement**. The left side promotes a contest offering $1,000 for clever, short titles for an image on page 20 (not visible here). Submissions close July 31. The right side is a **golf ball advertisement** featuring testimonials from three named executives: Douglas Wesson (Smith & Wesson Firearms), William "Bill" Hamilton (Conde Nast advertising director), and Clair Maxwell (Life magazine president/advertising manager). Their headshots and brief biographical sketches establish credibility as serious golfers endorsing the product. The advertisement's central claim: the Hol-Hi ball achieves both distance *and* control—solving golf's traditional trade-off. A money-back guarantee emphasizes confidence in the product. The small cartoon on the lower left appears unrelated to the main content—its meaning is unclear without context from page 20.

Y. CONTEST CLOSES JULY 31. Life A ball that now meets both requirements of the mod- ern game—distance—and the con- trol so necessary for low scoring. Star and duffer alike are proclaiming it as the longest ball they ever hit. We have removed, once and for all, that old myth—that a long ball is hard to handle around and on the green. Our faith in the Hol-Hi is best expressed by the following unusual guarantee. This Hol-Hi Ball is guaranteed to give absolute satisfaction—no matter how many holes you play it—for the lenght of its full life in the hands of the orig- inal purchaser. It is guaranteed to re- tain its shape, not to crack, and to re- tain its paint. If not entirely satisfac- tory it will be immediately replaced. 35 Plenty of Distance and still retain control Te serious young man with the glasses is Dougias B.
