Harold Pierson was about to depart, satisfied that he had allayed al! suspicion, that all had succumbed to the strength of the proof he had submitted, and that it was now only a question of time when he would secure the estates, unopposed by Mr. Hetlow. As he entered, Mr. Stanton cast upon him a glance of stern severity. ‘“ One moment,” he said. ‘We have not done with you.” Young Pierson saw the box under his arm and was immediately filled with alarm.
