About this issue

This installment features "Klondike Kit's Chum; or, A Hot Strike on Vulture Hill," continuing the adventures of the titular prospector. In Chapter I, Bottleneck Bill rescues a panicked Dutch immigrant named Karl Schnapps from a drifting raft on the Yukon River. After Bill boards the raft, a silver-tip bear emerges from the canvas tent. The raft breaks apart during the chase; both Bill and the bear fall into the water. Bill climbs onto a log and is cornered by the pursuing bear until Klondike Kit and Nugget Nell rescue him with a rifle shot and lariat from shore. Karl reveals he carries a message from Phil Courtenay, Kit's old Montana prospecting partner, requesting help at Vulture Hill. Chapter II begins introducing a mysterious tall figure in moosehide carrying mining equipment, interrupted mid-description.
