About this issue

This monthly British science fiction magazine contains four novelettes and four short stories. J.T. McIntosh's lead novelette "Unfit for Humans" depicts the emotional rupture created by forced population selection: Hy Hendon, a Earth-bound showgirl, is separated from her lover Lew, who has been selected for exile to the harsh colony world Logan. Unable to follow him voluntarily, Hy becomes the unwitting mascot of the Anti-Exile Party, which exploits her grief in a propaganda campaign questioning the morality of mandatory exile. The incomplete OCR reveals the story examines themes of forced separation, individual choice, and systematic population control. The issue also features novelettes by Philip E. High ("Topside") and Jerome Bixby ("Nightride and Sunrise"), and short fiction by E.C. Tubb, A. Bertram Chandler, Brian W. Aldiss, and Edward Mackin. Editor Tubb's editorial explores speculative history and technology—comparing steam and internal combustion engines while proposing future atomic-powered units.
