About this issue

This serialized novel by Colonel Prentiss Ingraham features "The Cowboy Rough Riders on the Rampage." The narrative follows an American filibuster mission to rescue Cuban patriots and prisoners during the Spanish-Cuban War. The steamer Mustang carries two hundred horses and Texas cowboys commanded by Captain Charles Chase toward Cuba in a storm. Chase seeks to rescue his fiancée Lucita Agramonte and her brother Hotspur Harry, imprisoned by Spanish Colonel Blanco Bartello at Wild Flower Plantation. A young Cuban woman, Marcelite, pilots her ship Flying Fish into the storm to guide the Mustang to landing. The story involves Cuban patriots including Rafael Agramonte, now a colonel under General Gomez, plotting a coordinated rescue using a feigned military assault to distract Spanish forces. Complicating matters is Don Ruiz Valdos, a traitor who was formerly a Texas Cowboy Clan member and spy for Spain.
