About this issue

By Edward L. Wheeler This adventure serial, published by Beadle and Adams in February 1882, follows Cyclone Kit, a young prospector searching for the legendary Walled City of Gold-Flake. Riding through mountain terrain, Kit encounters Old Meg, a wizened woman dwelling at "Phantom Acre," who conjures ghostly apparitions to intimidate him—though Kit suspects mechanical trickery. Old Meg claims supernatural powers and reveals she has been awaiting someone of Kit's courage and resolve. She offers to guide him to the fabled golden city, a sunken basin surrounded by sheer cliff walls where Mormon saints allegedly guard vast treasure. The narrative promises adventure into this isolated, mythical locale, combining frontier adventure with elements of the fantastic and mysterious.
