About this issue

This pulp magazine issue contains the serialized story "The Old Walruses o' the Woods" by Oll Coomes, a frontier adventure tale set on the Red River of the North in Minnesota. The narrative follows Polar Sol and Old Dismal, two veteran bordermen hunters, who encounter a mysterious fortified flatboat approximately forty feet long, equipped with a swivel-gun and fitted with tents and canoes. When Captain Jack Rivers arrives with his friend Joe Danvers and servant Congo, a cannon blast from the craft decapitates Danvers. The group buries their fallen comrade and pursues the mysterious vessel downriver, determined to identify and punish the murderer. The story combines frontier adventure with mystery elements, featuring the hunters' colorful dialect and period military intrigue as they track an apparent enemy whose identity and motivations remain unclear.
