About this issue

This issue of Deadwood Dick, Jr. features "The Sojourn at Satan's Spring" by Edward L. Wheeler, author of the Deadwood Dick and Rosebud Rob novel series. The narrative follows the arrival of Detective Deadwood Dick, Jr. (Richard M. Bristol) on a stagecoach approaching Satan's Spring mining town through Devil Canyon. The stage encounters the notorious road agent Captain Death—a skeletal figure in black garb mounted on a black horse—who commands a rifle-armed band. Despite Dick's attempt to shoot the bandit, one of Death's riflemen disarms him with a bullet. Captain Death's masked assistant collects valuables from passengers before the gang vanishes into darkness. The stage proceeds toward Satan's Spring, with passengers debating whether the stage company will compensate their losses.
