About this issue

This pulp serial, "Farrel Fox and His Girl Ferret: The Bogus Banker's Dive-Sharks," by Dan Dunning of the Secret Service Corps, follows three New York detectives. The story opens when detectives William "Bull" and Farrel Fox discover the sandbagged, disguised body of their fellow detective "Mac" McVeigh on a Fourth Ward sidewalk near 2 a.m. Despite medical efforts, Mac dies at the hospital after issuing a dying curse against his murderers, naming "Ralph of the Red Hand." Fox determines to impersonate the dead McVeigh to draw out the killers. Through Mac's papers, Fox identifies Ralph Raymond, a reformed Western desperado and ex-train robber, as the prime suspect. Fox stages a midnight funeral impersonating his dead colleague while the real McVeigh is buried, then encounters Miss Louise Weston, Mac's intended bride, who provides information about Raymond's connection to the detectives' past.
