About this issue

This issue of Beadle and Adams' pulp weekly (No. 927, April 1895) contains the opening chapters of "Kit Bandy's Brigade in Arizona," serialized by Oll Coomes. The narrative follows Ralph King, a young gentleman called the "Nabob" or "Vagabond," who returns to the Arizona mining camp of Redwood to help his uncle Judge Prosper Hurry. Rumors circulate that King may be "Black Vulcan," a notorious outlaw. When drunk miners molest Old Moses, a hermit, King defends him with impressive fighting skill, defeating a bully named Gila Bill and several others. An old Mexican laborer attempts assassination with a knife, but Moses intervenes and the assailant is kicked unconscious. Marshal Ben Hall stops the brawl before arrests are made, while jealous rival Captain Darrow contemplates next moves against the popular young newcomer.
