About this issue

This issue of Beadle and Adams' weekly (May 5, 1896) features the serial "Big Game" by T.C. Harbaugh, concerning Wall Street broker Lincoln Lore's mysterious disappearance. Detective boys Toby Tip and Zip Coppers shadow the dandy criminal Nobby Nick Noggles from the docks through lower Manhattan. They observe Nick meeting a sailor named Jack Donnard aboard the ship The Strongbow, exchanging money and cryptic remarks about concealing someone for a week. Later, Nick argues with an associate called Boston on Broadway near Trinity Church, threatening him with death if he reveals details of their scheme. The boys infer the missing broker is hidden aboard the vessel, and that Nick intends to claim Lucy Lore's five-thousand-dollar reward while pursuing the daughter himself, despite Boston's moral objections.
