About this issue

This August 1900 issue of Beadle's Dime Novels features "Tracked from the Rockies to New York" by Albert W. Aiken, first in a sequence continuing the adventures of Dick Talbot. The story opens in southwestern Colorado's Yampa River valley, where placer miners Talbot ("Injun Dick"), veteran Joe Bowers, and Leander "Limber Bee" Beaverwick work a claim yielding fifty dollars daily. When Limber Bee returns from camp drunk and jealous over Talbot's attentions to his wife Alethea, he attempts to shoot Talbot point-blank. Bowers saves his partner by striking Limber with a frying pan, and Talbot overpowers the assailant in brutal hand-to-hand combat, leaving him senseless. The narrative emphasizes frontier violence, mining operations, and character contrasts between the capable Talbot and the dissolute Limber Bee.
