About this issue

"The Fairy Belle Bonanza: A Story of the Eruption at Yellow Dog" by Wm. R. Eyster is a Western mining-camp serial. Major Israel Hawke and his partner Barney Behm—unscrupulous operators in Yellow Dog—plot to seize control of the valuable Fairy Belle mine, which belongs to young Miss Sybarita Courtney, recently returned from boarding school following her father's death. When an impudent drifter called "Take-it-Easy Tom" intrudes on their scheme offering nothing but boastful talk and requests for grub stakes, Barney shrewdly loans him money while the Major investigates further. Meanwhile, Sybarita arrives by stage with her cousin and a gentleman companion, catching the eye of Colonel Jack Ransome, Hawke's rival, who suspects her traveling companions of mercenary motives. The narrative establishes conflicting factions competing for the valuable mine claim.
