About this issue

This issue features the opening installment of T. C. Harbaugh's "Rocky Mountain Kit: The White Mustanger," a frontier adventure serial. The narrative follows the famous scout Kit Carson on a November night near the Wichita River. While conducting a reconnaissance mission, Carson discovers a wild mustang herd and pursues a mysterious white horse bearing an enigmatic rider. Upon confronting the stranger, Carson is shocked to discover the figure possesses an inhuman appearance—a blank featureless face with only a single blazing eye in the forehead. Dismissing this as a natural freak, Carson returns to his camp in a remote basin valley. There he reunites with his crew, including a remarkable fourteen-year-old boy named Pepito (called "the Seraph"), who possesses extraordinary hearing ability and claims to have audibly detected the mustang herd. The chapter emphasizes frontier setting, supernatural elements, and Carson's leadership of a specialized frontier party.
