About this issue

This issue of the Beadle and Adams weekly (December 15, 1886) presents "Wild Frank, the Buckskin Bravo; or, Lady Lily's Love" by Edward L. Wheeler, author of the Deadwood Dick series. The narrative alternates between two plots. The Western storyline follows seventeen-year-old Wild Frank, a buckskin-clad frontier scout, who discovers a dying man and a two-year-old girl named Myrtle in the Powder River country. The dying stranger entrusts the child to Frank's care, leaving behind an ebony box containing proof of her identity. The London narrative follows Sir Ralph Revere, a bank director, who learns from Lord Mt. Morey that his wife Isabel has confessed infidelity and demands divorce. The letter confirms her abandonment, instructing Ralph to collect their daughter Lily and leave England. Revelations emerge suggesting an elaborate scheme involving Dr. Perrot's asylum and the maid Cecil. Ralph resolves to depart that evening.
