Kit, the Girl Detective: Dandy Dash in California This Beadle and Adams story by T. C. Harbaugh begins in California's Sierra mountains, where young detective Kit Keene, whose feminine features surprise the rough mountaineer Dandy Dash, swears an oath to hunt down members of the "Lasso League" and deliver them to justice. Keene heads toward the lawless settlement of Trigger Bar near Sure Shot Canyon, having suffered at the League's hands. In Chapter II, at Trigger Bar itself, the rough Moonshine demonstrates his trained panther Santa's remarkable jumping ability, leaping a pyramid of whisky barrels. Moonshine then wagers his entire winnings that no one dares retrieve the animal's golden collar from the ground where it now lies, the panther guarding it menacingly. The story combines frontier detective work with action and animal spectacle typical of the pulp serial format.
