About this issue

This issue of Beadle and Adams' dime novel (No. 274, April 10, 1889) features "Dead-Shot Dandy's Double: Benito, the Boy Pard" by Colonel Prentiss Ingraham. The serial follows a courageous young woman riding alone near San Antonio who encounters the outlaw Bad Ben at a spring. Ben attempts to kidnap her for ransom, but she agrees to meet him the next day with money and jewels. When Ben arrives to collect payment, the maiden produces a revolver and captures him, binding his arms with a lariat. She commands him toward San Antonio for arrest, and when he refuses to walk, she ties him to her pony's saddle and has the horse drag him across the prairie. A mounted scout named Dead-Shot Dandy then appears, riding toward them on a black steed.
