Brimstone Bill's Booty by Joseph E. Badger, Jr., serialized in this 1891 pulp magazine, is an adventure narrative set in the Australian goldfields. Captain Charles Cooper of the Colonial Mounted Police assembles a team including Mariposa Marsh, Frank and Harold Freeman, and Matthew Marley to locate treasure hidden by the notorious bushranger Spring Steel. Harold Freeman discovered a cryptographic note revealing the gold's location. Mariposa Marsh secures legal rights to hunt the treasure by convincing a British official he possesses a magical stone for finding buried gold. Bowen, Cooper's subordinate, successfully deciphers the coded document, confirming the treasure's whereabouts contains gold worth nearly fifty thousand pounds from multiple robberies. Cooper plans an expedition into the Australian bush to excavate the cache, anticipating potential conflict.
