About this issue

The Boys in Blue Mustered In This Civil War serial by Lieutenant Harry Lee follows young Jack Clark of Fairdale, New York, a captain of the volunteer militia company known as the Fairdale Blues. When Lincoln calls for volunteers on April 15, 1861, Jack's company offers its services. The Governor accepts and positions them near Washington. President Lincoln personally summons Jack after observing the disciplined young soldiers march and, impressed by the captain's honesty and bearing, entrusts him with a critical midnight mission: retrieving classified military intelligence from a Union spy named Dupee stationed near Fairfax Court House—information essential for General McDowell's planned engagement with Confederate forces. Jack rides toward enemy territory under cover of darkness. Nearing the objective, he encounters a Confederate outpost campfire blocking his path, forcing him into dangerous evasion tactics while hearing an approaching rider behind him on the turnpike.
