The narrative then shifts to a peaceful homestead where Deadwood Dick (reformed ex-outlaw Edward Harris) lives contentedly with his wife Leone and infant son. Old Avalanche, a weathered scout, delivers a cryptic message to Deadwood Dick from someone called the Prairie Patrol, threatening further trouble. The text breaks mid-message, leaving the nature of this threat unknown.
