Jim Bludsoe's Triumph is a serialized novel of domestic intrigue and inheritance conflict. The protagonist, seventeen-year-old Sam Morgan, a poor but resourceful youth living in squalid quarters in Philadelphia's Alaska Street, becomes embroiled in a competition with his wealthy cousin Arnold Chelton to inherit their dying uncle's substantial estate. Chelton, a gambling man and moral reprobate, attempts to force Sam to leave the city by threatening false burglary charges, but Sam counters with knowledge of Chelton's involvement in a woman's death at the Sherman House. The narrative spans from Sam's modest home to Chelton's pursuit of the orphaned heiress Louise Lester, a young woman of considerable beauty and wealth. Chelton confesses to accidentally shooting a woman named Carrie Moore, revealing his troubled past and providing Louise grounds to doubt him.
