This 2013 Viz edition of *07-Ghost* volume 5 opens on a moment of raw desperation, with a fair-haired young man crying out "Hakuren… help me…" while a menacing dark-cloaked figure looms over a fallen blonde character, coldly declaring, "This wretch has committed every folly a man could — I will send him to hell." Yukino Ichihara's cover art captures the series' gift for blending ethereal beauty with genuine menace, the stark black-and-white linework giving the confrontation an almost theatrical weight. Fans of Yuki Amemiya and Satsuki Yamashita's supernatural saga will find plenty of tension to sink into here.
