100 Bullets #5
This German-language Vertigo Speed edition of *100 Bullets* brings Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso's noir masterwork to new readers, with a striking cover by Dave Johnson featuring two figures rendered in cool blues and grays — a younger man in sunglasses and a jersey alongside an older man in a fedora — surrounded by a bold mosaic of red-and-black vignettes teasing figures with guns, tense confrontations, and a mysterious suited man. Spent bullet casings tumble through the air above them, and the XIII-marked panel hints at the web of intrigue threading through this world. The title story, "Der Apfel fällt nicht weit vom Slum" — the apple doesn't fall far from the slum — sets a hard-edged, street-level tone that feels perfectly at home in Johnson's sharp, high-contrast design.
