A Body Beneath #[nn]

Michael DeForge's *A Body Beneath*, published by Koyama Press, collects issues of his comic series *Lose* and announces itself with a cover that's impossible to ignore — a massive, dark abstracted head rendered in bold lines of pink and sky blue, its gaping mouth filled with jagged teeth, set against a stark yellow background. The design is flat, confrontational, and deeply strange in the best way, with DeForge's signature graphic style turning a face into something almost alien. If you've been curious about one of the most distinctive voices in alternative comics circa 2014, this is an excellent place to start.
