Mrs. DePool shoots Selbert when he threatens Myrna, her granddaughter. Selbert gets his revenge by killing Mrs. DePoole with a poisoned doorbell and setting the house on fire while Tracy is trapped in a basement cistern hideout. Selbert buys a diner, but one of the women hostesses gets suspicious and Selbert drowns her by pushing a car into a river. Selbert sneaks into a parade float to escape, but is double-crossed when the float driver rams the float into a low viaduct.
