“A Scanner Darkly”
This 2007 German-language graphic novel from Schirmer/Mosel adapts Philip K. Dick's paranoid masterwork, with Harvey Pekar and artists Laura and Gary Dumm bringing the story to comics form. The cover immediately sets a mood of unease and surveillance — a figure's face peers out from behind dark vertical bars or slats, their expression watchful and half-obscured, bathed in warm amber light against deep purple shadow. It's a striking visual that perfectly captures the feeling of someone who is simultaneously the watcher and the watched.
