“When the Dweller Awakes”

In "When the Dweller Awakes," Cyclops returns to Salem Center to find it overrun by N'Garai demons, thrust into a cosmic threat tied to the ancient entity known as the Dweller in the Darkness. Written by Ralph Macchio and illustrated by Mike Miller, this 1996 Marvel crossover issue blends supernatural dread with X-Men urgency, as Cyclops teams up with Erich Zann to confront a summoning that could end the world—unless the counter-spell from the Book R'lyeh is read, at a terrible cost. The cover by Adam Warren and Alex Saviuk captures the eerie, otherworldly tension of the moment.

Cyclops returns from a day off to find the city of Salem Center overrun by N'Garai demons. He finds out from Erich Zann (the latest in a long line of protectors of The Dweller in the Darkness) that "The Dweller in Darkness" has been summoned and will destroy the Earth. It can only be stopped by reading the counter-spell found in the Book R'lyeh, however, this will send both the reader and the demons back to the N'Garai dimension. Cyclops recovers the book and Erich, wishing to atone for the sins of his family, reads the counter-spell and saves the day.
