Agonie #[nn]

Nov 2017 · Cambourakis

Mark Beyer's *Agonie* arrives in a French edition from Cambourakis, bringing his raw, unsettling vision to a new audience. The cover says everything about Beyer's singular style: two distressed, wide-eyed figures — one rendered in sickly yellow-green checks, the other in dark stripes — raise their hands in a gesture somewhere between surrender and alarm, while a sharp-toothed orange creature lurks behind them, knife in hand. It's deadpan dread rendered with deliberately crude linework, and the effect is as darkly funny as it is genuinely uncomfortable.
