Airborne 44 #8

Philippe Jarbinet's *Airborne 44* continues with its eighth volume, subtitled "Op onze puinhopen" — Dutch for "On Our Rubble" — and the cover sets a gripping tone immediately. A helmeted soldier advances through a smoke-filled, burning ruin, submachine gun in hand, while the coiled form of a massive serpent looms in the background alongside a shadowy bird-like figure. Jarbinet's stark, largely monochromatic linework — punctuated by the flames and that vivid green series logo — captures the grim, war-torn atmosphere this Belgian WWII series does so well.
