Al Capp by Li'l Abner #[nn]
In this rare 1946 free comic from the American Red Cross, Al Capp’s own inkwell comes to life when he leaves his studio—spilling the Yokums into a self-referential comic strip where Li'l Abner takes on the role of both writer and artist. With chaos unfolding as Moonbean McSwine and Mammy Yokum disrupt the process, the strip unfolds in Capp’s signature style, drawn entirely by the characters he created. The story, written, drawn, and inked by Al Capp with assistance from Walter Johnson, features a cover by Al Capp himself.

When Al Capp leaves his studio, the Yokums come out of his inkwell and draw a comic strip biography of Capp in the same style as Li'l Abner. Li'l Abner does the story and artwork on the biography despite distractions like Moonbean McSwine attacking Daisy Mae, and later Mammy Yokum, with an ink eraser.
