Alex Toth Last Chance #[nn]
"Third Time Out" is a standout tale from Alex Toth’s final creative days, a moody, atmospheric story written by Paul S. Newman and illustrated with his signature precision and flair. When the Lennon Sisters’ car breaks down in a storm, their desperate search for help leads them to a remote farmhouse—only to uncover a hidden operation tied to a stolen vehicle and a dangerous pair of criminals. The cover, also by Toth, captures the story’s tense, isolated mood with his unmistakable line work.

After making a wrong turn on their way to a state fair performance, the Lennon Sisters' car gets stuck in a mudhole on a desolate road during a storm. Their father goes to get help, leaving the girls in the car. Hours later, the four girls make their way to a nearby farmhouse occupied by an elderly woman and her son. Meanwhile two men have towed the Lennons' car to a hidden room in the barn of the farm where the girls are staying. The sisters find themselves in the middle of a stolen car operation that involves two crooks who are blackmailing the woman and her son.
