Set against the looming concrete towers of a French suburban housing estate, this first volume of *Allée des Rosiers* — subtitled "Tuile sur Tuile" — introduces a group of young residents caught between the buildings and the streets they call home. The cover, rendered in a restrained, naturalistic style, gathers a handful of kids and teens leaning and lounging together, their body language hinting at the everyday tensions and camaraderie of *banlieue* life.
