In "Menace of the Runaway Missile!", Martin’s chance purchase of a fiesta mask in South America unleashes an unexpected power—control over animals—when he dons the Mask of Mastery. As he uncovers the sinister legacy of three ancient masks, each tied to a different force, he confronts the chaotic effects of the Mask of Fear and the Mask of Doom, wielded by Jose and Ellis. The story unfolds with a tense, escalating mystery, all drawn with dynamic precision by Bob Brown, while Gil Kane’s striking cover captures the high-stakes drama.

In South America Martin buys three fiesta masks from a street hawker. Jose tells Martin that his mask is the Mask of Mastery and there were two more masks, of Fear and Doom, made at the same time. Martin dons his mask and finds he can control animals. He sees Parker wearing the Mask of Fear and surrounded by fearful demons. He trips Parker up and the mask falls off and then he stamps it to pieces. They then see a train accident and a cart on fire caused by Ellis wearing the Mask of Doom. Martin dons his mask and orders animals to remove the other mask. Later all masks are destroyed.
