The opening volume of Alvin arrives from Dargaud in 2015, subtitled L'héritage d'Abélard — "Abélard's Inheritance" — and its cover immediately sets a quietly poignant tone: a large, round bear in a striped shirt stands with his back to us before a doorway, while a small child waits on the steps below, clutching a red hat. Dillies and Hautière craft a scene full of gentle tension and warmth, the soft pencil-and-wash art giving the whole image a storybook intimacy that draws you straight in.
