Am Rande des Himmels #[nn]
Howard Cruse's *Am Rande des Himmels* — the German-language edition of his celebrated graphic novel, published by Carlsen Comics in 1996 — arrives with a cover that immediately signals the sweep of its world: a dense, beautifully rendered crowd of Black and white faces fills every corner, with protest signs demanding voting rights and an end to segregation pressing in from the edges. Cruse's linework, both on the cover and throughout, carries real human warmth and specificity, giving each face in that throng its own quiet dignity. At 42 DEM, this "Comic-Roman" brought one of the medium's most personal and politically engaged stories to German-speaking readers.
