“The Blue Aspic”
Edward Gorey's *Amphigorey Also* announces itself with a wonderfully peculiar cover grid: eleven illustrated panels, each pairing an ornate decorative letter with a grotesque, softly rendered insect or larval creature, surrounding a central banner bearing the title in Gorey's distinctive hand-lettered style. The restrained gray palette and cross-hatched detail are pure Gorey — whimsical and faintly unsettling in equal measure. This 1983 St. Martin's Press collection gathers more of his singular work, including "The Blue Aspic," and the cover alone makes a persuasive case for the strange, rewarding world waiting inside.
