Angst essen Käse auf #[nn]
Published by Droemer-Knaur in 1995, this German humor collection by OL sports a wonderfully absurd cover: two wedges of cheese — one pale and hole-riddled, one golden yellow — sit together under a soft spotlight against a cool blue, bubble-dotted background, the whole composition rendered in OL's loose, warmly hand-drawn style. The rainbow-lettered title "Angst essen Käse auf" (a playful riff on the Fassbinder film title) sets the comic tone immediately, and a note on the cover promises additional material about Paul Weller with a foreword by Max Goldt. At 16.90 DEM it was an inviting slice of late-'90s German comic art.
