The issue contains two stories. In the first, a character scheme to build a house by collecting logs from a beaver dam, but beavers chase them away; they eventually escape by setting a tree on fire and taking refuge in a house made by the beavers. In "Bill and Koo," Bill and a gorilla chase the street, and two young characters named Johnny and Woof find a magic carpet that helps them escape; they give it to Bill and Koo, who use it to fly away while the characters pursue them. A second story titled "Bill and Koo" features Bill seeking to earn a quarter for the circus by working; Koo suggests an easier method—digging for a quarter someone dropped two hours earlier.

When Bill and Koo unearth a mysterious machine that can bring pictures to life for five minutes, they think they've struck it rich—just in time to catch the circus in town. But their scheme to conjure up real money to buy tickets goes hilariously awry, especially when they accidentally animate a picture of a gorilla that sends them fleeing through the streets and straight into trouble with the law. Bill and Koo learn the hard way that some shortcuts come with very real consequences.
