Animal Man #27

Part one of "Evolve or Die!" arrives with a cover that crackles with dread — a wide-eyed woman with red hair dominates the upper half, her single visible eye glowing an unsettling crimson, while two horned, bestial creatures square off in the foreground beneath the tagline "Unleashing the Monster Within!" Rafael Albuquerque's cover art balances visceral creature design with an almost painterly use of red that makes the whole image feel urgent and a little unnerving. Jeff Lemire's New 52 Animal Man run has consistently pushed its characters to dark extremes, and issue #27 looks like it's ready to push even harder.
