Writer-artist Dan Parent — already the architect of the Archie/Valerie romance storyline and the Kevin Keller series — scripted and penciled the lead story, with Rich Koslowski on inks and Jack Morelli on letters, working within the final years of the original Archie volume before the 2015 New Riverdale relaunch. The issue was packaged as an oversized special blending new material with classic reprints: a Frank Doyle/Harry Lucey vintage Archies backup, a Frank Doyle/Dan DeCarlo story reprinted from That Wilkin Boy #1 (1969), and a vintage Josie tale — making it a deliberate retrospective of the publisher's musical characters as much as a new story. The four-issue arc (#650–653) was subsequently collected in the trade paperback Archie: Rockin' the World, and the lead chapter was also reprinted in Archie Comic Super Special Magazine #6.
