Part of Archie Comics' Americana Series, this second "Best of the Forties" collection captures the gang in full mid-century swing — cover artist Rex W. Lindsey puts Archie at the wheel of a rattling jalopy labeled "Keep 'Em Flying" and "Engine Room," with Betty, Veronica, and Jughead piling in while a flustered policeman looks on from the sidewalk. The whole scene radiates that breezy, small-town energy that made the Riverdale crew so endearing in the 1940s. Inside, stories by writer Samm Schwartz and artist/inker Ray Gill bring back the charm of that era in fine style.
