This oversized Artist's Edition collects some of the finest DC war storytelling ever committed to paper, featuring work by Heath, Kirby, Kubert, Severin, and Toth — an extraordinary gathering of mid-century masters. Joe Kubert's cover art is presented in raw black-and-white original-art style, depicting a tense battlefield standoff: a steel-helmeted German soldier looms over a wounded American GI on the ground, while a young child watches from the shadows — the speech balloon pleading "Don't start killin'… even to save my life!" giving the scene a haunting moral weight. Kubert's draftsmanship shines without color to soften it, making this 2016 volume a deeply satisfying showcase of war comics storytelling at its most human and unsparing, with Sgt. Rock prominently represented in the title banner.
